Smoke felt as though everything except for him and his beloved had merely stopped moving- as though time itself had ceased to continue, for all he knew he wanted, all he could think of, was Faya. He looked into his mind for memories, and found nought but memories of Faya, as a grown wolf as well as a pup, memories he'd had without ever knowing he had them.
At her words, a yelp of delight soared free from his muzzle, spiralling up and out into the autumn sky. The smile that graced her face was so beautiful, so loving, that Smoke couldn't help but flash her a smile back, his light tail waving in delight, cream muzzle shifting forth to lick the tip of her nose softly, blowing air gently onto her nose at the same time, snuffling slightly and smiling at the feeling.
Not the feeling off his tongue against her nose, but the feeling inside his chest. That headstrong, war-winning feeling which made his heart swell and his dreams and hopes take off into the world. Love- that was the feeling that was making him smile.
He loved Faya, in a different way to how he had as a pup, and in a different way to how he loved Traska, Haze, and Massacre. Traska had taken him under her wing, as his father's last request had been, and Smoke had grown to love Traska not as the female whom cared for him, but as his mother. Had Haze survived that night, perhaps Traska would have become his mother, but then- he and Faya would never have been given this shot at love, which was definitely not sibling, or family, love; it was pure, untainted, love between two souls who had found something inside one another that they adored.
Smoke knew that he loved Faya with all his heart.

Faya felt as though she was floating, and giggled as Smoke licked her nose, wondering if he'd ever stop. She knew that the pounding of her heart, that the rush of blood through her veins was love, but Faya had never been one for soppiness, and she put a maw on Smoke's maw, laughing openly now.
"Smoke, you're the best wolf in the world, and it's really great and all, but if you carry on I'll turn into a girly girl and start putting flowers in my fur!"
She crossed her eyes and started prancing in circles, exaggerating the silliness in her tread, lifting her paws ridiculously high, tongue lolling, ears flapping, tail swaying.
She tripped over and landed in a heap, giggling madly, for everything suddenly seemed ten times funnier. She got up and pounced on Smoke, grabbing his ear tenderly and shaking it, pressing one paw against his side.
It reminded her of when she was a cub, and she and Smoke had been playing for about an hour, not noticing the furious fight happening behind them. Faya giggled some more, realising how blind they had been and wondering how on earth they had managed it.
She gave a mock growl and pressed against Smoke with her paws, gently, but trying to role him over, her favourite trick.

Smoke gave a laugh at what Faya said, rising to his paws as she did. He watched in amusement as she pranced around, laughing slightly as she did so, then he quickly darted forwards when she tripped over, ready to pounce on her, only to get his ear nibbled at as a reward.
When Faya tried to roll him over, Smoke gave a playful snap of his jaws- he was much stronger and heavier now, and she wasn't going to be able to roll him onto his back as easily.
He grabbed her neck-fur in his mouth, softly though, and gave a gentle tug, before flopping down to lie on her as he had in the memory playing in both wolves' minds- with the difference being that his paws and chest were spread across her back, stopping her from moving at all, though his tail was waving so much that it kept hitting her muzzle, lightly, and mock growls floated from his mouth too, accompanied by all manners of laughs and yips of delight- his previous grief forgotten in the moment.
"Gotcha."
Grinning, he whacked his tail playfully against her muzzle, before sliding off of her, nudging her with his powerful muzzle, snapping his jaws playfully close to her, whimpers of happiness clawing out of him, and rushing off into the air to join the yips and laughs hanging above them, like a cloud of delight.
His light-grey tail waved to and fro, cream paws waving in the air as he rolled over onto his back, tail now snaking up between his legs and waving madly, tongue hanging out of his mouth and dangling to the side. He gave a little yip, almost biting his tongue in the process, black eyes shining with happiness.
He looked like an overgrown pup.

As Faya realised Smoke had grown burlier and tougher, she realised she could play rougher, and was about to throw more of her weight into her "attack", when suddenly she felt a tug at her deeply scarred scruff, growling a little as she didn't particularly like it touched after what happened, a kind of phobia building up from the pain she'd felt that night, but she didn't say a word...she didn't mind so much since it was Smoke.
When she found herself pinned, she giggled madly again as she fought to get up, starting to use more and more of her strength. Though Smoke was stronger and better built than she, she was a very tough wolf for a female, and could probably give Smoke a run for his ...erm ...fur.
She opened her mouth to give a little snarl and suddenly coughed as she got a mouthful of fur; his tail flicking against her muzzle. She laughed and snapped her jaws shut each time it ame near, attempting to grab it in her teeth but missing every time, due to her random little fits of giggles.
The moment Smoke rolled off her, Faya sprang to her feet and turned with a grin to see him laying on his back, tail between his legs, tongue lolling. Faya rolled her eyes playfully and stood over him so she was looking down, throwing him in shadow.
"Aw..." She said, dipping her head to flick Smoke's nose with her own, tickling his belly with her feathery read tail. "Little Smoke's a pup again." She smiled as memories of their playful childhood rushed into her mind, and her eyes became distant for a moment as she thought of it.
She lay down on her side, so that her belly was facing Smoke, and she stretched her paws out so that they were pushing against his fur, for no reason other than to feel him under her paws and to love every strand of fur she touched.
"Can't you give me a proper answer?" Faya said in a whiney, cubbish voice, giving Smoke her best puppy-eyes, though they were flashing aswell. "About where you've been, what you've got up to?"

Smoke gave a playful snap of his jaws at his beloved's words, tail flicking playfully between his legs, paws waving madly in the air. As her eyes became distant, he couldn't help but cast his own mind back into the past, when they were pups. A smile aligned his muzzle at the memory, and he retracted his tongue in as a soft sigh swept from his mouth, only to turn into a yelp of shock as Faya's tail tickled his stomach.
"So what if I am?"
He had an annoyed expression, but his eyes were warm, friendly, and he said the five words in a childish manner, chuckling all the while, only to cough and roll over when his beloved Faya lay down beside him, his body turning automatically to face her. He flicked his paws playfully at hers, though his smile faded slightly at her next words.
"I've been around, my sweet. I haven't stayed in the same place for long, because staying still allows memories to find me- ones I'd rather stay lost."
He sighed after he'd finished speaking, casting his gaze elsewhere, obviously not inclined to speak more about what he had been up to, where he had been, and the likes. He opened his mouth to ask about her, but simply closed it again- he wasn't going to open those wounds. Snuggling slightly closer to her, his paws coming to his chest, he licked the tip of her nose as he had before, smiling all the while.

Faya paused for a moment as she caught a note of irritation in Smoke's voice, but was reassured by the smiles, the look in his eyes, the chuckles.
As he answered her question, she fell silent. She wasn't going to press him. Losing Traska, whom Faya was closest too of all, the she-wolf knew just what Smoke was going through ... but he had been so young. Faya gave a sad little sigh, and as his tongue ran over her nose, she brought her muzzle under his own and pushed upwards, nuzzling him gently, telling him without words that she understood.
She did not notice his maw open as though about to ask her something. He needn't have worried, for Faya had quite enjoyed her journeys, and as she nuzzled her love now, she reluctantly realised that her travels had ended for here was the reason she had journeyed in the first place.
The thought made her heart sink a little, but she she felt his fur against her, she knew that as long as they were together, she'd give up everything she'd had; freedom, travelling ... anything.
Suddenly, the fae pulled away and stood up, hackles bristling. That scent ... she recognised it. Sometimes at night, she had smelt it as though someone had come to her in her dreams. But this scent was real, and Faya's eyes flashed as her lips began to slowly curl back.
A timber wolf stepped from the trees, his grey and red fur shining, head held high. Faya noticed he had a very powerful build, and realised that she'd have to back down; she was strong too, but she wouldn't stand a chance against this wolf.
Slowly, she let her hackles down, relaxed her muscles, but her lip remained raised. That smell, she knew it, but she did not know this wolf.
"Hello Faya."
He said, his voice deep and rumbling. Faya growled and her lips went down in surprise. How did he know that name? She looked uncertainly to Smoke, as though waiting for him to say that this was his friend, before turning back to the stranger, doubting that Smoke would have brought any mates he had with him.
"I got it right, didn't I, the name?"
The wolf said triumphantly, and Faya noticed he was looking at her, longing for her. She stepped back.
"So what if you did?" She snarled.
She was getting very uneasy and was bracing herself for attack, drive the wolf off, anything. She was well used to the procedure ... it had been done to her enough times. She was quite looking forward to turning the tables...

If Faya thought that the travelling, for one, would stop, she was quite wrong- Smoke wasn't one to settle into a place willingly, so they would have to travel to somewhere both loved, at the very least.
Here, for now, seemed alright- except for the fact that someone had seemingly been watching them, or at least- had been watching Faya.
The sudden raised hackles and lips of his beloved made Smoke's own figure change to a furious posture- hackles rising, lips lifting, ears flattening, tail fluffing, growls rumbling up and out of his throat. He whipped around to face the male who had adressed Faya, and snarled furiously at him- at the look in the male's eyes as he looked to Faya, /Smoke's/ Faya.
Call him posessive, but he had just found his beloved, and he wasn't going to let anyone take her away from him again.
Smoke listened to the words of the male, then of Faya, for a few moments, before snarling again, at the male once more, rising to all four paws in order to glare furiously. His tail lashed out, agitatedly, at the air, his claws slashed at the earth in front of him and his beloved- a warning to the timber wolf.
"Who the hell are you?"
His voice held a tone of utter contempt, he couldn't help but show that, the same as he couldn't help that his head was lowering to cover his neck, his fluffed-out tail curling into the air behind him, hackles raised and black eyes gleaming with power.
For Smoke was, despite all that he had gone through, an extremely powerful wolf, and if this male challenged that, he would find out, first hand, what Smoke's power, especially when he was furious, meant.
"Why don't you just back /off/."
Again with the contempt in his voice, though this time, his voice also contained a threat- if the male refused to leave him and Faya alone, he would find out why Smoke had become so well known amongst the loners- Smoke had been an expert when it came to fighting, and if he had to, he would prove it here and now- anything to keep this male the hell away from the lovely female behind him, though she was, in fact, only slightly behind him, and to the left.

Faya was startled by Smoke's sudden fury, and shied down slightly as her dear one took on such a terrifying pose, threatening the timber wolf in every way possible.
Ohtar was large for a Timber Wolf, but Smoke was larger. This did not put the wolf off. When it came to love, as Smoke was living proof of, strange things could happen to a wolf's common sense and state of mind.
"Such emotion over something so small." Ohtar growled, his eyebrows raising. "What threat could I possibly pose to a wolf such as you?" But Faya noted the sarcasm in the wolf's voice and came to stand beside Smoke.
She did not snarl or growl. She needed to make sure Smoke's questions were answered first.
"Tell us who you are or Smoke won't have the chance to tear your throat out before I do."
As Smoke was well known for his power, Faya had managed to hold on to her title of "Faya of Fire" merely for her attitude and her spunk. Her words were calm, for the moment, as where Smoke would leap straight to defensive/attack mode, Faya would wait for a better reason.
"Ohtar, Faya love." The wolf said, eyes glinting. "And I have been waiting for the day that love would bring us together for so long."
Faya's pure shock was evident and she gave a sound that was halfway through a cough and a disbelieving laugh.
"You have /got/ to be joking." She snorted, putting on paw on Smoke's, before finally allowing herself to take on a threatening form.
The transformation was quite awestriking. Where there had been a defiant young she-wolf now stood a furious wolf who was ugly only in her fury, as her maw wrinkled, her canines flashed into view and her claws dug the ground ((not clawing Smoke's paw, obviously)) and her tail was high and fluffed out so it look thick and spiked. Her black markings bristled as her fur did, showing up clearly as her pelt was relatively light in contrast to the dark bits bruising her features.
Ohtar also began to bristle, but only when he looked at Faya's paw 'pon Smoke's.
He turned to the male, giving a wry grin.
"Stay out of this anyway, brute, it has nothing to do with you."
If only he knew...

"So small?"
Smoke's voice was filled to the brim with incredulity and fury- the matter of Ohtar's obvious longing for Faya was not small at all for him. He opened his mouth to respond to the sarcastic comment Ohtar made, then snapped it shut again, happier just to snarl, furiously, at the male.
His attention rushed to Faya as the female moved forwards to stand beside him, and a proud smile aligned his face as he gazed at her for a second, before the smile vanished and his gaze latched onto Ohtar once again.
His ears pricked up at the sound of Faya's calm voice, a slightly incredulous look glowing in his black eyes, now, as he looked to her once more, before the proud smile graced his muzzle again, only to vanish a split-second later at Ohtar's response- calling Faya, love.
His muzzle parted with a snap, to retort furiously, only to hear Ohtar's next comment, and his open mouth merely unleashed a snarl that could rock the ocean's depths, rather than the furious words that had rushed to get his attention.
Smoke didn't even feel Faya's paw atop his own- he was too busy snarling and growling furiously, and when his beloved took on a furious pose also, he took a step forwards, head lowering further, muscles bunching together, ready to propell him forwards and kill Ohtar, if he had too.
"Excuse me? She is not in love with you, nor will she ever be!"
Smoke need not even look at Faya as he said this- the disgust in her voice as she herself had replied to Ohtar had said had proved, to Smoke anyway, that Faya was as much in love with him now as she had been since their feelings for one another had first stirred deep within their hearts.
"It has nothing to do with me? Oh, thats bloody rich- Faya is with me, not you, so this has everything to do with me. Also- Faya is /never/ going to let /you/ touch /her/."
As if to prove that Faya would, on the other hand, let Smoke touch her, he drew back slightly, licking her muzzle, before returning to his former position, eyes flashing with fury and love- love that he felt for Faya. As his father, before him, had fought a large, powerful male just to keep Traska safe, Smoke would fight not to keep Faya safe, but to keep her. He loved her with all his heart, and he wasn't going to let a headstrong male take away the most important thing in his life- the lovely she-wolf beside him.

Ohtar's glare grew narrower and narrower with every word that Smoke uttered, eventually feeling his temper snap as the wolf leaned over to lick Faya's nose lovingly. Ohtar's head swung up and as it came down, a snarl erupted from his throat, not pausing as another added to it, Faya's, for her own patience was wearing thin.
"I know Faya better than you ever could, wolf." Ohtar snarled coldly. "For all the time you had abandoned her, for all the time she'd been travelling alone, I was with her, I was there. I was able to nuzzle her chin at night and bless her with sweet dreams, I was able to learn from her as she grew up. When she and the pack rescued her from our alha's clutches, I settled on the very mountain shadowing that valley.
I saw everything. Watched you as you howled for your foolish father's death. He practically walked into death's jaws himself, just lying down like that and waiting for it to come.
I watched you as you grew up, I watched Faya. I watched you leave, I watched the alphess die. I know that Faya killed two hunting dogs that were attacking a cub from a pack not her own, and was driven away by the alphas. You didn't know that, did you? I know that she once stole through a human village and took their meat from right under their nose, and every bullet missed as she took off. I was right behind her. Why did the bullets miss? Because I lured the gun shafts to my direction.
If Faya only knew all I have done for her, then we would have been together long ago, and she'd love me with all her heart. How can she love you, after you left her, just like that? How could she feel for anybody who could be heartless enough to do that?"
Faya had had enough. She felt her heart wrench as the wolf spoke of Haze with such disrespect, and she had nudged Smoke in sympathy, before freezing as Traska was mentioned. She listened in disgust, revolted that the wolf had indeed come to her every night before resuming his positon a day's walking behind her.
And she felt her senses snap as she realised that this wolf did indeed know more of her life than Smoke did. But that did not matter because the wolf did not know anything of her heart, of her mind or her soul like Smoke did. In Faya's eyes, this wolf knew nothing of her.
But that did not stop her leaping forward, barging Smoke out of the way, and Ohtar met her with open jaws. For a moment, they were both locked together, both on their hind legs, clawing at eachother's open stomachs, biting at eachother's throats.
It had been a reflex that Ohtar had reacted to her attack at all, and he twisted, throwing her off him, so she stood, panting, some of his blood mingling with her own on her fur. They had barely scathed eachother, just enough to draw a little blood.
"A crime of passion, Faya, is it not?" Ohtar cried, also panting.
"Passion? Yes, it is." Faya snarled fiercely. "But not a passion for you, never. A passion for Smoke, and every injustice your words just did to his father."

Smoke listened, disgustedly, as Ohtar spoke so carelessly of everything important in the light grey and cream male's life- Faya, Haze, Traska. When Ohtar mentioned Haze, though, Smoke's patience, the last of it, snapped, and he didn't even feel Faya's nudge.
He just stood, fury radiating from him, and listened to everything, preparing to pounce just as Faya did, nudging him slightly out of the way in the process.
A snarl rose from his mouth, and he himself leapt forth, as Faya's words echoed in his ears, his claws coming into contact with Ohtar's sides, slashing down them as he leapt onto the male's back, jaws sinking into the fur there, his head thrashing wildly from side to side, pulling clumps of fur out, sending blood trickling down Ohtar's sides, the slashed as well as the not-yet-ripped-to-shreds.
Yelps of fury and rage swarmed out of him, as well as snarls and growls, his eyes gaining a red tint, as bloodlust stirred deep within his mind. Nothing but animalistic fury lived in him now- as well, of course, as love- love for Faya, for Haze, for Traska; for all the pain that Ohtar's words had just caused him.
***
Soft green eyes flickered to and fro as the female, seeing and scenting the commotion ahead, gave a quiet whine of confusion- wishing she could hear what was happening, wishing for that sense to be given to her.
She sighed, quietly, before speeding up in her pace, her eyes falling upon Smoke and Ohtar, fighting, then to Faya, close by.
Instantly, she knew what she had to do- she had to stop the slender, red-brown female at the sidelines from participating in the fight. Her muscles bunching together, then snapping out straight, she rushed forwards, stopping quickly in front of Faya, rearing up and snapping her paws onto Faya's chest, pinning her down in the same movement- for no reason other than to keep her still.
Deaf, Azura might be, but she was not stupid, nor did she not know that Faya wouldn't get herself killed if she joined in the fight.
"Stay down, female."
Her voice louder than normal, which in turn was louder than a normal wolf's voice at any given time, to go over the sounds she knew must be coming from the fighting, Azura kept her green gaze 'pon Faya- she didn't particularly want to hurt the female, but if she had to too keep her from getting herself killed, she sure as hell would do- though Azura, soft at heart like her sisters, wouldn't hurt Faya nearly as much as the fight would.

Ohtar was unprepared for Smoke's attack as his eyes had been fixed on Faya, and the wolf gave a blood curling yell when the jaws of Smoke started to tear at his back, doing a good job of shredding the fur and the flesh.
Following the dusty paths of instinct, Ohtar lifted himself on his hinds legs, gasping at the effort of lifting both his and Smoke's weight, before allowing himself to come crashing backward, falling heavily on his back, crushing Smoke beneath him, hopefully forcing the wolf to release his grip on Ohtar's back.
Watching in horror, Faya was preparing herself to spring at Ohtar's open stomach, an easy target, when she suddenly felt paws come down on her chest, thrusting her backwards, pinning her. Snarling and crying out in worry for Smoke, Faya opened her jaws to snap them down on one of this wolf's paws when a loud voice filled her mind, and Faya's gaze cleared in some confusion.
She had only once come across a deaf wolf, and a glimmer of recognition of the signs lit in her eyes; the loud voice, mainly. But Faya's anger would not be held back.
"What d'you think you're doing?" She hissed furiously. "Get off me!" And she struggled, kicking out with her paws, though she was as unwilling to harm this wolf as the wolf was to harm her. But she needed to help Smoke, her brain was aching as that one thought throbbed through it.

When Ohtar reared up and slammed back onto the ground, Smoke gave a loud cough as his body was pressed sharply onto the earth.
He managed to push Ohtar up and off of him, rolling away with the same movement, before standing slowly, lips rising again, hackles bunching together amd lifting, fur and tail bristling, snarls rising from his throat.
Circling around Ohtar, Smoke gave a sudden snarl, pouncing forth again, though this time his jaws connected with the back of Ohtar's back legs- one of the weakest places for a canine, merely since because most cannot reach round there.
Smoke gave another snarl, pulling his head back and away from the fur, spitting out a lump of fur and flesh, a snarl gracing his muzzle once again.
There was no way he was letting this ...male... get anywhere near Faya- and was partially pleased to see a light brown female pinning down the female, and was also partially worried as to why; he didn't recognise the female from anywhere, which meant she could, in fact, be in an allegiance with Ohtar- a thought that didn't stop the thundering of his heart against his chest.
"I'll never let you have her!"
***
Eyes on Faya's mouth, Azura's ears flicked back reflexively- she didn't have a clue what Faya had just said, since she hadn't spoken the words clearly enough.
"Have no idea what you just said, but, yeah. I ain't letting you up, sweetie, I can't let you go get yourself killed."
Azura's voice was loud again, though this time, her words were accompanied with a flick of her green-tipped tail, her eyes blazing with- it was hard to place a finger, actually, on any of the one emotions glimmering behind those green eyes of her's.
"I'm sorry."

As Faya looked up into those thoughtful green eyes, she felt herself thrown back into the past, not Azura's paws pinning her but Smoke's as she tried to run to Traska's aid in the battle with Massacre.
"You'll only get yourself killed." He had whispered, eyes full of concern. Faya remembered it vividly.
She gave a little growl as Smoke coughed and looked up at Azura sorrowfully. "But Smoke." She groaned, eyes filling with worry. "I have to help Smoke."
She said the wordw tih feeling injected into every syllable, but she had long since guessed that Azura was deaf or hard of hearing, and made her lip movements slow and clear.
"Please..." She whispered at Azura's last words.
---
Ohtar felt himself thrust away from Smoke and leapt to his feet, turning for another attack. It had been in this turn that Smoke's jaws had sunk into his leg, tearing away and dragging fur anf flesh with it.
Ohtar screamed as the fangs ripped through his leg, and when they came free, he held the injured paw high, groaning as his ripped tendons bellowed for attention. His breathing was now in short shallow gasps as both his leg and his breaking heart ached, Smoke's last words making the wolf cast a longing glance at the Faya under the weight of Azura.
Ohtar's eyes turned back to Smoke, hatred throbbing through each vein like pioson.
"If I may not then your death shall satisfy me enough."
Ohtar was lying through his teeth, but didn't care, didn't at all. He lunged forward and landed on his injured leg, which buckled beneath him. As he fell, he opened his jaws and plunged them into Smoke's side, and the weight of Ohtar's body falling dragged his teeth through the soft fleshy mass that was his underbelly.
Feeling the warm blood pulsing under his maw gave Ohtar a feeling of grim pleasure, and he growled as Smoke's blood stained his maw, like a kill would, except Ohtar had not killed the wolf ... not yet.
Ohtar landed heavily and he barely heard Faya give a high pitched scream, scenting blood and suddenly struggling like fury under Azura's paws. He could just make out the words, "I'LL KILL YOU, I'LL KILL YOU...!" uttered over and over again with such hatred and loathing it hit him like a brick wall.
"You hate me, my love." He growled, pulling his jaws away from Smoke, eyes sparkling. "You hate me until you have no more hate to give, and then you shall be able to do nothing other than love me."

Azura shook her head, eyes still 'pon Faya's mouth, as she saw the words that Faya had spoken. She couldn't hear what was happening behind her, but when Faya started wriggling like mad under her paws, mouth forming words resembling 'I'll kill you', the deaf female let her ears flatten back against her skull, her body moving to allow Faya to get up- she knew the signs; she knew that her words of caution weren't going to be enough to keep Faya still, and so had let the female jump up to save her love.
Azura's green eyes were turned now onto the fight- she saw the blood shed from the fight, and she sighed, shaking her head slightly, before flopping silently down onto the ground- if she had to, she would intervene; but only to save Faya's life, if she must- she had an affinity with females because of her situation with her two sisters.
***
A blood-curdling snarl rose from Smoke's mouth, inbetween gasps for air, as the rip in his stomach appeared. When Ohtar stopped, briefly, and turned towards Faya, Smoke snarled again, though this time from fury rather than pain and, awkwardly, pulled himself to his paws, for he had been bowled over in the process of having his stomach ripped, ignoring the blood splattering down onto the ground from his stomach and, instead, leapt at Ohtar again, his jaws snapping shut on Ohtar's scruff, his claws scratching all down Ohtar's back as he struggled to get a grip.
He got the grip he wanted to, and violently shook his head from side to side, ripping Ohtar's scruff even worse than Faya's had been damaged all that time ago- just before she'd nearly been drowned.
"Killing me won't bring Faya to you!"
Smoke hissed in a breath through his words and his ripping of Ohtar's neck, snarls rising from his throat, his eyes locked onto the body beneath his jaws- he hadn't noticed, yet, that Faya had gotten free of Azura's protective pinning-down.
