The autumn gold shone on her fur, patterns reflecting from the water dancing like flames on her white fur as the sub broke over the horizon, bathing the Pewter Creak in beauty.
The waterfall tumbled over a large overcrop of smooth rock, roaring into the deep, crystal blue pool below, eroding it deeper and deeper every day. The shadows of fish darting to and fro could just be seen as the light leaked over the water, like ink spreading through a puddle, reaching out with golden fingers for the banks.
Raendel stood atop one of the largest rocks. She had obviously had to jump a fair way to get there, as it was in the middle of the deep pool, which was fairly large, and it stuck up a good way out of the water. Her paws were close together, and though her head was high, it was pointed down as she watched the waters swirl below her.
She was just close enough to the falls to feel it's spray on her back, which clung like dew to the tips of her fur, and she was standing beside a beautiful rainbow that was sent in a low curve by the low sunlight dappling the area.
She wasn't a big wolf, nor was she small, but she had a thick pelt that fluffed out, especially in the damp of the falls, and hid her scrawny figure. Her ears were forward and her long slender neck was arced delicately.
Her hazel eyes were closed as she tried to feel pleasure for the wonder in which she was standing, but got nothing but a painful abyss, and emptiness she could never fill. She opened her eyes, and if she was able to, they would have been brimming with sadness. It hurt to try so hard to feel an emotion, and so she gave up.
She looked strangely beautiful, standing there, alone and uncaring, for she had no choice but to not feel for anything around her. It was her curse, and her gift, for sharing the emotions of others could tell her a lot about a wolf.
But her heart skipped beats often, and she had a constant pain in her chest. She ignored it and let her thoughts drown in the pool below her, splintered only by fish and occasional ripples spreading through it like fire.
Raendel was lonely.
And Raendel was waiting.

Raindrops splashed down onto the ground, seeping into the den, making myself and my sisters shiver, our muzzles rising towards the sky even though one of us could not speak, one could not see, and one could not hear. The final of the three, myself, kept a steady gaze on the heavens above, straining to hear any sounds from the outside world. As one, we pulled our heads back under the safety of the soil, each of us shaking our glorious coats, sending droplets of rain to the already-soft ground beneath our paws. One by one, we fell asleep, not noticing the den filling with water at an alarming speed, not noticing that outside, the water level was rising too; and the only thing stopping us from drowning was a small clump of bushes.
An almighty groan, and the bushes were ripped from the ground. Water started to rush into the den, awakening each of us. Outside, my sisters could hear the screams of the other wolves- others who were, like us, slowly drowning. Shrieks emitted from the jaws of both myself and my blind sister, whilst my mute sister merely screamed without noise, all three of us suddenly swapping to survival mode, none think about the others, all just wanting to get out of the watery prison.
More screams outside, followed by gurgles as some of the others, our friends, began to die. One by one, we pulled our heads under the surface of the water, swimming quickly towards the hole-entrance and exit, and leaping out, each taking off in another direction. Chaos had fallen upon our usually-peaceful settlement, and now, as we ran away from one another, oblivious to the fact, the water level around our paws grew, with corpses spilling out of the dens, swirling around our feet...
With a start, Azura awoke from her nightmare, sighing and cursing herself silently for never having a different dream at night- ever since that fateful night, she had been able to think of naught else. She wondered what had happened to her sisters- she wondered if dear Tosca and Skye were alright.
She'd fallen asleep near the lake she had recently found, and had decided to stick around in this area for a while. Now, a new scent had caught her attention, and she rose, albeit slowly and with groaning limbs, to her paws, stretching, and yawning, before quickly, and fairly loudly, padding forwards through the trees, eyes instantly landing on Raendel.
"Greetings, ma'am."
Her voice loud, overly so considering she was now just at the edge of the pool, Azura felt her ears prick up, and sighed softly- her ear movements were reflexive, not neccessary, and bugged her to no end. Light brown fur still knotted and dirtied from her sleep upon the ground, pale green eyes were focused only on Raendel- or rather, her muzzle. Her green-tipped tail flicked once or twice, to simply show she meant no harm to the female on the rocks in the midst of the pool, eyes still on Raendel's muzzle only.

[glow=white,2,300]Chasing Butterflies ... I'll be dancing by myself[/glow] [/color] Raendel looked up, her beautiful muzzle glimmering as the sun made it's exhausting journey higher up the sky, it's goal only to sink back down the other side and relent to night, darkness engulfing the earth it watch swell each day. Suddenly, Raen felt herself burn with curiosity, for when she sensed an emotion, it was often an exaggerated version of what a wolf close by was thinking, but it hid a weariness aswell. She also felt a little shaky, as though she had seen something she didn't want to see, or felt something she could not fathom; Azura had been thrown into her past and forced to relive the seperation of her and her sisters. At first, the white wolf said nothing, merely regarding the wolf in silence, taking in the green tipped tail in particular, but not bothering to dwell on the unusual marking, though curiosity was firing inside her to ask the wolf about it. She gave a little nod, and said, "Hello. Who are you?" She didn't say it rudely, merely pressing on the fact that she did not know. Her voice was soft and silky, but simple, and often not used to speaking much, as until now, she had voided wolves. For three years, she had avoided them. Chasing butterflies ... for three years, she had wandered, hunting down love, a love she knew she'd never catch, it would just slip away and head for the skies, a place she could not follow it without wings of herown. I'll be dancing by myself ... alone, always and forever. Raendel's destiny.

Regarding Raendel with the same level of curiousity the female showed towards her, though Raendel only had curiousity because of Azura's, Azura gave another flick of her tail, eyes straying from Azura's muzzle briefly to take in the beautiful scene- and she missed Raendel's words, and turned her head back to Raendel only to see her lips move to form the last word- 'you'. Blinking, Azura gave a slightly embarrassed look to Rae, before speaking again, as loudly as before.
"Sorry, but I didn't catch that, repeat it for me, please?"
This time, she kept her gaze fixed on Raendel's mouth. Neither she nor any of her sisters had ever admitted to their ... disabilities, but that would change if she had to ask Rae to repeat herself again- it was unfair to ask for something without giving something in return; dear, sweet Skye had always told her so. Well, telling was a strange word to use- since Skye was the mute sister. But in a way, Skye's calm looks, albeit turning more nervous when others were around, calmed the other two sisters immediately, making both forget everything except for one another. Skye, if she could talk, would definitely have a favourite saying- the one both Azura and Tosca used so much;
'Don't judge with your senses, judge with your heart.'
How she missed her sisters now- Skye's calm, though nervous, ways and silence, Tosca's optimism and cheer. Her ears pinned back against her skull at the memory, grief and shame overwhelming her- she felt responsible for them all splitting up. Although only by a few hours, Azura was, technically, the eldest, with the soft-voiced, laid-back Tosca as the youngest. Azura wanted nothing more than to be reunited with her sisters, and her rip-tipped ears flicked back forwards again- she would find them, she would. But first, she would help the lonely female before her- the one with a glimmer in her eyes; the glimmer of sadness, though Rae probably hadn't put it there on purpose- she wouldn't have been able to anyway, since Rae had no feelings of her own.

Raendel only just noticed the volume of Azura's voice, and she felt a little rush of embaressment tingle in her fur. Wondering why, but of course she was unable to feel confused, Raen repeated her words, slowly and loudly, as she felt that perhaps the wolf was too close to the falls and it must be drowning out the noise of her voice.
"Hello! Who are you?"
Came the words again, and Raen sprang lightly to a smaller rock a little way away, then bunched up her muscles and launched herself to the bank, a fair distcance to leap, and her back legs landed in the water. It did not bother her, and she took to examining the wolf's tail curiously.
"I'm Raendel." She added, to save the wolf the bother of repeating her own question.
The wolf's eyes glimmered as she looked back up, and, for a moment, she thought she felt as though she had lost something and needed to find it, but the thought vanished in an instant and Raen forgot she'd ever felt it.
In many ways, Raen still acted as though she was a cub, when she was allowed to feel playful, for she'd never had a good childhood and made up for it in her later years. It was not a bad thing as it helped her get on, but now, as she watched that flicking, green-tipped tail, she felt her thoughts wander back to the loud voice and the embaressment.
Azura had never told another of her inability to hear.
Raen had never spoken of her ability to sense emotions and share them.
These wolves had much more in common than they thought.
Suddenly, Raendel drew back her lips and her maw erupted in a vicious snarl, her eyes flashed with loathing, anger, and her hackles flew up. She looked alarming, sitting there, furious...
But almost as suddenly as it came, it stopped. and Raendel gave a groan of apparent agony.
For though the anger and the hate was still there, the emotions of Azura was aswell. Two very different emotions all trying to make themselves heard with Raen... not good. Her heart started to pound, making the murmurs more pronounced, and the pain in her chest became almost unbearable.
The wolf lay down suddenly, curling herself up tightly, shuddering, trying to fight the curiosity and the seething fury away from her mind. Her eyes fluttered to a close, and she became pure despair, laying pathetically at Azura's feet, moaning and clawing the ground.
The white eyes watching her front behind a tree glittered with malice, enjoying every moment of her pain. He watched her gasping and giving little whimpers and whines and the wolf smiled. As he stepped into the sunlight, his fur flowed and rippled a deep purple-black, sticking out like a bruise on the carpet of fallen red leaves.
His white fangs glinted, and his tail swayed to and fro.
He was so scarred it looked as though a giant spider's web had been draped over his strong, robust body, and the very was slightly tufted by each one. His ears was severly chipped, which could only add to the ill will hovering like an aura around his body.
He stood over the pathetic form of Raen and he glared at Azura.
Fang has found a victim...

This time, Azura's keen eyesight caught Rae's words without too much hassle, and she smiled, opening her mouth to respond, before seeing the female leap quickly from the large rock in the center to a smaller pile, to the area right in front of Azura, the other female's forpaws on the bank and backpaws in the water. Rae spoke her name, and Azura nodded, before actually responding herself-
"Azura, my name is Azura."
Her gaze fell upon Rae's eyes now, and she turned her head slightly to look at her tail tip, at the strange colouring, before looking back to Rae, mouth falling open in question, before her emotions changed quickly, focusing on alarm, as Rae started snarling and growling at her- although she couldn't hear, she could see the raised lips, the hackles, the hatred gleaming in her eyes. As quickly as it started, it stopped again, leaving Rae to collapse onto the ground, curling up- in an effort to protect herself from something?
Azura payed no heed to Fang approaching, for she could neither smell him, nor see him- all of her energy was focused on Rae, she was nudging the female, trying to get her to rise, to explain what the problem was. Her tail was draped between her legs, her ears pinned back to show her confusion and uncomfort, and her fear for Rae's health- mental as well as physical.
"Raendel, get up."
Not an order, nor not spoken harshly, Azura's naturally-loud voice echoed around the clearing; and around the entire area, for it made the dark-cream muzzle of a female wolf rise, curiousity and amusement flashing in her eyes. Light cream everywhere except for her muzzle and her left forpaw, which were dark cream, Kerryn might have looked adorable, and her voice might be silky and soft, but she was extremely annoying- constantly optimistic, and although full of self-hate, she also knew how to have a good time; how to have fun.
Springing up from her lying position beside a small fern, close by, Kerryn gave a twitch of her muzzle, tail flicking simply, before she leapt forwards, muscles propelling her towards the pool, towards the three wolves at it, a smile stretching comically across her face.
The sudden sight of Fang in her vision, standing above Raendel, made Azura flinch back, her ears flattening further against her skull, lips and hackles rising in a challenging stance. She was suddenly feeling swamped with scents- his, Rae's, and one of another female, who was approaching quickly and, as Azura shifted her gaze briefly over to the vegetation Fang had emerged from, Kerryn burst out of the aforementioned bushes, making Azura sigh softly, and return to glaring at Fang, lips still raised and showing her glimmering canines.
"Who are you?"
Voice rumbling like thunder in the mountains, Azura watched Fang coldly, eyes roving across his body, assessing his posture, deeming him a threat. Kerryn, meanwhile, moved forth to stand beside Azura, head tilted to one side, smile fading at the animosity hanging in the air.
"Oookay then..."

Raendel felt a muzzle against her, nudging her, telling her to get up, and the wolf suddenly felt a rush of concern and anxiety, coming directly from Azura, and it overcame the hatred. Though the pain was still there, it became momentarily bearable, before Fang's anger mingled again, and Raendel resumed her twitching of agony.
But Rae, who had not been with wolves for a long time for this exact reason, suddenly realised that she could concentrate her empathy power on just one of the wolves, something she had never thought of before.
And so, the arrival of a strange wolf gave Rae the grateful excuse to focus on her. After a while, the wolf began to relax and allowed curiosity, some confusion and an eager happiness enter her mind, making the wolf thump her tail on the floor, a cubbish joy overcoming her mind. Her head was killing her, her heart was aching, but she was able to stand and, still looking closely at Kerryn so she could keep hold of the emotions, but it hit her then that she could face Fang, couldn't retaliate to him or protect herself unless Kerryn did aswell.
Though Rae was smiling wildly and was still feeling light hearted and cheerful, she managed to hiss, in a strained voice, "Get angry and the wolf, at the male, growl at him, anything, just get angry, get angry at the brute..." over and over again, knowing she'd sound odd but not caring.
Fang also turned his attention to the arrival of Kerryn, and, adressing both her and the stratled looking Azura, he gave a malicious grin.
"Hello, sweeties."

At the white wolf's strange whisperings to her, Kerryn only huffed impatiently in response- if there was going to be a fight, there was no way she was sticking around. Flirty, fun loving- yes. Brave- no. Kerryn was a coward at heart; which was one of the reasons she hated herself.
She wasn't going to run away just yet, though- she'd rather not waste her time in coming, only to go away within five minutes. Pale-cream tail flicking in a slightly bored manner behind her, she payed no more heed to Rae and her bizarre mumblings, only flashing a smile to Fang after he spoke, ignoring his malicious smile- a plot forming in her head. After all, a little flirting never killed anyone, right?
"Heya."
Simple and direct- two words which could be used to describe both Kerryn and her spoken word. Azura, who had watched the frantic movement of Rae's lips, turned her head back to Fang in time to see his words, though she still had to ponder for a moment on what he had said, her gaze on his malicious grin the entire time.
"Yeah, okay, I don't want to stick around, thanks, so I'll be going."
A subtle movement of her tail, the tip flicking Rae's muzzle lightly, Azura stood from her seated position, her entire tail flicking once, before she turned, back to Fang, flank to Kerryn, and other flank to Rae. Kerryn gave her a confused sort of look, then shrugged, returning her gaze to Fang; yes, she was willing to flirt with him, but there was no way she was taking her eyes off of the male for long- everything about him stunk of deceipt, hatred, evil- and Kerryn wasn't particularly happy to think about what could happen to someone who got on his dark side. Or rather- his darker side.

Ears pointed forward towards the sound of a commotion, hazel eyes surveying the scene before him, Reed padded along the grass. Dusty grey fur adorned with spots running down his side. Ahead, he saw the figure of Rae. As he drew closer, he saw Azura and Kerryn. He let out a friendly yip, then froze as he saw Fang. Something wasn't right about him...Something dark, something malevolent...
